The Streets Brixton 2011

Brixton, England, 5 March 2011

Yesterday I heard my grandma is very ill. The doctors give her a few months only.

Today my friend Ozzy & I woke up early to go to the airport. Our plane was supposed to leave at 9:05 but it all took the airport crew a bit longer so it was a little later. Thankfully the flight didn’t take too long.

We arrived very early at Airways hotel Victoria, it was 10.30 and we couldn’t check in until 1.30. Time for breakfast. We were staying in the area of Buckingham Palace, so also the prices in the shops/restaurants were for people who could afford that. We had breakfast in a pub for 25 pounds. Not going to do this tomorrow. It was a good breakfast though!

When we finished we went to Victoria Station. Laurence would arrive soon. We went to do some window shopping. I didn’t want to spend any money, as I didn’t have much and breakfast was way more then I could afford. I needed all the money I had for The Streets merchandise. 😉

At about 1 Laurence arrived, we met up and walked to the hotel. Soon after we arrived we could check in. The hotel room had 5 beds. Perfect! we can invite people 🙂 We were relaxing a bit and at about 3 we were ready to go to Brixton.

We got on the tube and only 4 stops and we were in Brixton. We went to look for the venue

Then we needed a drink. There is a weird atmosphere in this town. A lot of freaky looking people. In the pub The Wetherspoons bar The beehive, were more freaks. “Sexy” some freak whispered in my ear. This is a scary place. After 1 drink we went to have a look where the night bus would leave from. And I showed them “The Dogstar”.

Now it was time to go to Nando’s. Nando’s was across the street from the venue. As soon as we got our food Shep & Jamie arrived as well. Was good to see them longer then last week in Birmingham. At 6 we went to the club “Plan B”. I got a message from Zoë that she arrived at the venue. I picked her up. Then Emma & Emma walked in.

In the meantime Zoë left, to meet up with a friend.

Before we left, we had a few photos taken.

Ozzy, Laurence and I left at about 7.

I bought a t-shirt for myself. We dropped our coats at the cloakroom and we got to the 2nd row. I sneaked up between 2 guys and I was up front. 2 lovely guys though.

First support act was Engine Earz. Too bad that the sound was terribly loud. A security guard gave me ear plugs. I was so happy! After them Brother came on. I didn’t like Brother. They bored me. Couldn’t wait for The Streets.

I also met Matthew Phillips.

At 9. 15 it was time for The Streets.

While Mike did a crowd surf in suit. Very nice! It was filmed by Beat Stevie, for their music Video OMG. (It was released on May 22nd 2011).

That an amazing gig. Crowd was great! The best Go low ever! It was one of the best gigs I have ever been to.

Ted was looking good with his new haircut.

And after the gig I met Mitchell Fenn (talked to him on Twitter) he gave me the playlist. thank you so so so much!!  I also met Havva again.

And Dan (Mike’s brother) came over to say hello. “Tess” he said, I recognized him right away and gave him a hug. Was lovely to meet him. I wanted a photo.

I had to buy a hoody for Terry and 2 t-shirts for Addolorata and a 2nd t-shirt for myself. Only the hoody was sold out. I bough a t-shirt for Terry instead.

I also got a Oyster Card holder from the O2 Academy, with the “Computers and Blues” album cover on it. Love it, I got a few as I’m from Holland, also to give away, to promote the album, I gave one to Terry & Addolorata.

I got a huge headache (again). So I sat down when Ozzy and Laurence were getting our coats. Then it was early enough to get the tube back to the hotel. I got so sick. I nearly puked and I nearly passed out. Glad we got to our stop. Ozzy & Laurence carried me out the tube. I sat down for a few minutes. I felt a little better. I probably didn’t drink enough. We walked to the hotel, so good to smell fresh air. We relaxed a little, drank some water. At the hotel I drank 2 sips of the cup of tea Ozzy made me, then I fell asleep.

March 6th

The next day Laurence left to get her train back to Brussels, Ozzy & I got some breakfast at the hotel. Then i needed to buy some proper English tea, but Tesco’s was still closed. Also Sainsbury was closed, so we went to Starbucks, that was next door. Got a cup of coffee until the shop was open, I bought 240 tea bags and some more chocolate. I finished the chocolate that Emma gave me last week already. Then we went to Harrods but a very tiny chocolate Easter bunny was much more then I could afford so we went back to Victoria station to get the train to Gatwick Airport. We arrived back home in Amsterdam at 6.30 pm. We got a pizza. Ozzy fixed my computer problem and he went home at 9 pm.
