Paris, France, 27 August 2011
I woke up at about 7am, got the bus to the airport at 7.50. Arrived at the airport at 8.20. Got a Starbucks at the airport and at 8.45 my train left to Rotterdam. Ozzy would pick me up there. We are going to Paris.
It was a last minute add to their tour. They were replacing Q-tip. I found out last week on Sunday that they would be playing there. On Monday Ted arranged it for us. Thanks Ted! Again! We’ve been to this festival in 2008 as well.
It’s a 5 hours journey by car. We stopped twice for petrol and lunch, we arrived at the parking lot at about 3.30pm. It was raining a lot. We waited till it stopped raining, we saw the Eiffel tower. When it was dry again we walked to the entrance.
When we got to the entrance we asked where to collect the guest list tickets, we got told that we have to take the tram to the other side of the festival, there is another entrance. Only 1 stop.
Ok where is that tram? We asked the people from the box office, they didn’t speak English and sent us away. Thanks for your help…NOT! Then we saw some security guys, they didn’t speak English either… well, a little bit, with arms and legs we understood each other, we knew which direction we needed to go but we’re still not sure where this tram is, at least we know, it’s tram 5 we need. Then we saw the police, 1 of them spoke a little bit of English, he could tell us how to go to the tram stop. WE FOUND IT!
All this hassle was well worth it, because we were VIP. I text Ted & Rod to let them know we were there. I’ve said this already, but thanks Ted, for sorting us again. We saw their bus already, it had an English license plate and festival parking tickets for Leeds and Reading. It said “The Streets” as well. This gig was between these other two gigs. It was a great way to make up for Pukkelpop.
Time for a beer. The boys would play in 2 hours time. quickly finished the beer, we went to the toilet and then ready to get to the festival site. We bought a bottle of water and we went to the front of the stage. Blond Redhead was on, didn’t like it much. was a bit boring, but as soon as they finished we went more to the middle. There was a girl in front of us. She promised that she would give me her space, as long as I would give it back. OF COURSE!! But then a lady next to her left and she gave her space to me (so lovely). Ozzy squeezed in.
It started raining, very, very hard. A little late, but more then welcome the security guard handed over a piece of plastic. Ozzy and I wrapped it around us and we were heating up again.
Time for The Streets. What a gig! WOW!
I really enjoyed myself! Sometimes it was hard to breath, My ribs are bruised, but well worth it!
Mike went crowd surfing!
Right after the gig we went back to the VIP area to heat up, get dry, visit to the toilet, get a drink and relax. When we arrived we had already seen the tour bus of the guys. so at this point we went to have a look at that bus, and we saw Cassell. “What are you doing here?” he asked. “We’re all the way from Holland to see you”, we said. Cassell smiled. He didn’t even know we were there. “You weren’t up front” he said, “Oh yes! of course we were up front” I said. “guess I didn’t look much at the crowd today” was Cassell‘s reaction. He asked if we had seen Mike yet (He always asks me that), nope we didn’t. He told us that Mike just walked by. Cassell went to the VIP area. We walked around a bit, but went to the VIP area again, then Cassell walked out. I told him I didn’t see Mike yet. Cassell said, he would tell Mike that we were in the VIP area if he saw him. Cassell you are the best. He smiled.
When we turned around, in less then a minute I saw Mike in the VIP area. He came over to us for a chat. Until more people came over to talk to him and take photo’s with him. Ozzy wanted to take a photo of Mike talking to the other people but when Mike saw that he put his arms around me and we got a new photo.
Another girl started talking to Mike. Mike said to her “I feel like I’m getting interviewed” LOL… It did indeed look like it but she promised Mike that she was a real fan! Every morning when she walked the dogs she listened to his music. “Ok” Mike said haha. Then he went back to the bus.
We got another drink and walked back to the festival site for some food but we walked passed the tour bus and we saw Rod. Finally, it’s been so long! Last time was Brum in February this year. He had to load the trailer. Then he would go for some food and then he would meet up for a beer. Cool! We’re up for that. I went to the toilet first then when we walked to the festival to get some food. We got a crêpe with butter and sugar. This was delicious! WOW! Then back to the VIP area. We were still pretty cold, we got another drink and we chilled a bit. I text Rod that we were there, but he never came (still busy).
Steve, Rob & Kevin came over tho. Was good to see them. We had a nice little chat. We could get warm in that tent. The boys left for a drink. Rob & Kev were quiet. Steve was talking. He’s usually the quiet one. We chilled a bit.
Not long after Madge came over. We had a real good chat! He was lovely as always. He was very sweet. See you in Corfu Madge! LOL. Madge said that he’d love to come to Corfu but that he always takes the rain with him. Nah, don’t come then 😉
